Lucara sells rough diamond for record-breaking £43.5m
Diamond production company Lucara has revealed the greatest rate ever achieved for the sale of a rough diamond.
The 812.77-carat kind IIa rough diamond, which was recovered from the Karowe mine in Botswana in November in 2014, has been sold by the company for $63m (₤ 43.5 m).
As part of the sale, there was an additionally preserved 10% interest in the internet profit received from the sale of the completed polished diamond.
The diamond "The Constellation" was named by Nemesis International and Lucara.
William Lamb, president and CEO, claimed: "We are extremely pleased with the sale of this wonderful 813ct diamond as well as the possibility to more participate in earnings made when the polished item is offered."
The sale of the 813 carat diamond is the greatest price ever before reached for a rough diamond.
The sale comes quickly after Lucara revealed the largest rough diamond to be found in over a century, at 1109-carats-- will certainly go on at a standalone Sotheby's auction in London on June 29, 2016. It is anticipated that the ruby can cost as much as ₤ 48m.
